The ingredients needed to make Sambhar:
  1. Take 1 cup tur /arhar dal
  2. Prepare 1 tsp salt
  3. Make ready 1 tsp turmeric powder
  4. Get 1/4 cup cubes each of bottle gourd, pumpkin,brinjal &tomato
  5. Make ready 1 tbsp beans pieces
  6. Take pieces Few drumsticks
  7. Take 3 tbsp sambhar masala
  8. Make ready 1/2 cup tamarind water
  9. Get 1 tsp red chilli powder
  10. Get to taste Salt
  11. Make ready 1 tbsp oil for frying vegetables
  12. Get For tampering:
  13. Prepare 2 tbsp oil
  14. Prepare 1 tsp mustard seeds
  15. Take 4-6 curry leaves
  16. Prepare 3 whole red chillies

Sambar is a dish in South Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil cuisines, made of toor dal and veggies, sambar masala. Steps to make Sambhar:
  1. Boil tur dal along with salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan,add onion and fry for 2 minutes.Add all vegetables,saute.
  3. Add salt and 1/4cup water,cover and cook for 2-3minutes till veggies are soft.
  4. Add boiled tur dal to veggies,add 3cups water and add red chilli powder and sambhar masala.Let it boil for 10 minutes on low flame.
  5. Now dal is thick,add tamarind water and adjust sambhar consistency.Put off the flame.
  6. For tampering,heat oil in a tadka pan,add red chillies and mustard seeds.When splatter,add curry leaves.
  7. Saute for 10 second and add to sambhar.
  8. Serve hot.
