The ingredients needed to make Sambhar:
- Take 3/4 cup toor dal
- Take 1-2 tbsp tamarind
- Prepare 1/4 tbsp coriander leaves
- Prepare As per taste Salt
- Prepare 1/8 teaspoon turmeric
- Take 1 medium onion
- Prepare 1-2 drumsticks
- Make ready 2-3 lady's finger
- Make ready 3-4 cubed red pumpkin
- Get 1 green chilli
- Get 1 medium tomato chopped
- Take 1 tbsp coriander seeds
- Make ready 1 tbsp chana dal
- Get 1 teaspoon urad dal
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Take 1/4-1/2 teaspoon methi seeds
- Take 4-5 red chilies
- Take 2 teaspoons ghee or oil
- Prepare 1 sprig curry leaves
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Take 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- Take 1 pinch methi seeds
- Take 2 pinches hing
- Get As required sambhar powder
Sambar is a dish in South Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil cuisines, made of toor dal and veggies, sambar masala. Instructions to make Sambhar:
- Wash dal and put in the cooker, add 2 cups of water.
- Heat on medium flame for 2-4 whistles
- Wash all veggies and chop them into pieces
- Pour 5 cups water add chopped veggies, cook on medium flame until soft.
- Soak tamarind in 1/4 cup of hot water.
- Mash the dal to smooth.
- When veggies are cooked add sambhar powder, turmeric, salt and cook for 5mins
- Pour tamarind and add smooth dal mix well, boil it and add salt to taste
- Heat oil and add mustard cumin and methi, add curry leaves and hing too
- Pour this over the sambhar, your sambhar is ready to be served.
