  2. Make ready 1/2 cup toor dal
  3. Make ready 1 tomato
  4. Prepare 1/4 tsp turmeric
  5. Take 1.1/2 cup water
  6. Make ready 1 tsp mustard rai
  7. Get pinch hing
  8. Make ready few curry leaves
  9. Get 2-4 green chilli
  10. Prepare 1/2 cup tamarind extract

  13. Take 2 tbsp sambar powder
  14. Prepare 2 green chilli chopped
  15. Make ready 1" ginger chhoped
  16. Take 1 dried red chilli
  17. Prepare 2 tbsp coriander finely chopped
  18. Get 2 tbsp rice flour
  19. Make ready 250 ml oil for deep frying
  20. Take 1/2 onion petals
  21. Get Salt as per taste
  22. Get 1 1/2 cup water
  23. Take Ingredients for vada–
  24. Make ready 1 cup urad dal
  25. Get few curry leaves finely chopped
  26. Take 1 tbsp dry coconut pinch of hing /asafoetida
  27. Take 1/2 tsp salt

It is popular in South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisines. Just before serving warm up sambhar, immerse vadas and let soak for two minutes. Sambar vada, sambar idli types are very popular in restaurants like saravana bhavan It is very easy to prepare sambar vada, just make medu vada, sambar and the only work. Sambar vadai is one my all time favorite, in fact i can say it is the entire family's favorite one.

Steps to make Sambhar vada:
  1. Firstly, pressure cook ½ cup toor dal, 1 tomato, ¼ tsp turmeric and 1½ cup water for 5 whistle. - - bin a kadai heat 3 tsp oil and saute 1 tsp mustard, pinch of hing, 1 dried red chilli and few curry leaves.
  2. Also saute 2 green chilli and ½ onion for a minute. - - now add ½ cup tamarind extract, ½ tsp jaggery and 1 tsp salt. mix well.
  3. Boil for 10 minutes or till tamarind extract gets cooked well. - - add in whisked dal and tomato. mix well. - - also add 1½ cup water and adjust consistency. boil well.
  4. Method of vada- - - 1-firstly, in soak 1 cup urad dal in enough water for 3 hours. do not over soak, as the vadas will absorb oil.
  5. 2-drain off the water and grind to fine fluffy paste adding water as required. i have added 4 tbsp of water to make smooth thick paste.
  6. 3- transfer the urad dal paste into large mixing bowl. beat and mix the batter in circular motion till they turn light. this helps to incorporate air into batter and make medu vada soft and fluffy. - - 4- further add 1 inch ginger, few curry leaves, 2 tbsp coriander, 1 tbsp dry coconut, pinch of hing, 2 tbsp rice flour and ½ tsp salt. - - 5- mix the batter well with the help of spoon.
  7. 6- heat the oil in large kadai. wet your hands with enough water and take a small ball sized dough and make it round. - - 7- now slowly shape the edges and make a hole at the centre like you prepared in bread vada.
  8. 8- drop the vada in oil and deep fry the medu vada on medium flame. - - 9- fry on both sides till they turn golden brown and crisp. - - 10- drop the fried vada into warm water and add ¼ tsp salt.
  9. 11- soak for 10 minutes or till vada absorbs water. - - 12- squeeze off the water and place the vada into a plate. - - 13-pour the prepared sambar over vada. - - 14- finally, sprinkle few chopped onions and servesambar vada.
  10. Notes: - firstly, prepare the vada before hand and pour sambar just before serving. - also, soaking vada in hot water helps to absorb more sambar. - additionally, add vegetables of your choice while preparing sambar. - finally, sambar vada recipe taste great when served hot with chopped onions.
