  8. Get 2 tbsp Desi ghee 2 big tsp

How to make Maa Ki Dal. In this version of Maa ki dal, we use only Whole urad lentils, and no kidney beans. This uses less amount of butter/ ghee, and takes lesser time than the makhani dal. Maa Ki Dal is a Punjabi everyday dal made with black urad.

Steps to make Maa ki dal:
  1. Wash the dal properly. Then, boil the dal in cooker by adding tomato and salt. Take a pan and add ghee in it. Add jeera, green chillies, turmeric powder, coriander powder and hing. Then add the tadka in the boil dal.
  2. Now, your maa ki dal is ready to eat. Serve it with coriander leaves.

There is no addition of butter or cream in this recipe. Traditionally, the creaminess of the dal comes in slow cooking the lentil for hours. Maa ki daal literally means mother's lentils in Punjabi.
