I was exposed to Haleem during my stay in Hyderabad and learnt this recipe from my close Muslim friend. Haleem is a delicious and filling Arabic stew typically made with a variety of barley or wheat, lentils and meat. Steps to make Chicken Haleem:
  1. Take half cup of oil in a large pan and fry chicken with ginger garlic paste for few minutes.
  2. Add all the spices and fry for few more minutes.Then add all the pulses, barley and wheat in the pan, mix well.
  3. Now add 16 cups of water and bring to boil.
  4. Now low down the heat and let it cook for three hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Check if pulses are done and water has reduced to half.
  6. Now turn off the stove for few minutes and take hand blender and blend chicken pieces in the pot. Just blend few times.
  7. Note: if you don’t have blender then use masher and mash everything really well.
  8. Now turn on the flame add a cup of water and cook for thirty minutes.
  9. Separately fry onions in some oil and add in into the Haleem.
  10. Let it cook for fifteen minutes. Adjust the consistency and turn off the flame.
  11. Dish it out,garnish it and serve with naan.
