Thatte is the Kannada word for plate and this flatter idli takes its name from its shape that is reminiscent of a flat disc or a plate. Making thatte idli at home is not at all difficult.   1. Take rice in a vessel and dal in another vessel and add water and soak for 4-5 hours.
  2. After 5 hours remove extra water and grind in the mixer jar. soak rice flakes in water for 10 minutes,and grind it as well.
  3. Mix both paste, add salt, curd, oil and soda bicarb.
  4. Grease thali idli plate. Take water in a steamer and boil water.
  5. Now pour a ladleful or little more and steam for 15 -17 minutes or till done.
  6. Remove from plate and sprinkle podi.Serve hot with chutney and sambhar.
