The ingredients needed to make Dal ARHAR with Tadka:
  1. Take 1 cup arhar dal washed soaked in water overnight
  2. Take Pinch Hing/asafoetida
  3. Take to taste Salt
  4. Take 1/2 tsp haldi (turmeric powder)
  5. Get 1 tsp oil
  6. Take for tadka
  7. Get 3 tbsp desi ghee
  8. Prepare 1 tsp zeera/ cumin seeds
  9. Make ready 1 onion chopped finely
  10. Take 3-4 garlic cloves grated
  11. Take 2 dry red chilli
  12. Prepare 1 tomato chopped finely
  13. Prepare To taste Salt
  14. Take 1/2 tsp haldi/ Turmeric powder
  15. Prepare 1/2 tsp red chilli powder

In Dal Tadka, main ingredient is yellow Tuvar /Arhar ki Dal which is soaked and boiled with Turmeric + Salt. Dal Tadka - Any yellow dal spiced with tadka. The tadka includes a good number of regular spices for ex. cumin seeds, red chilli dry, Fenugreek Seeds, black mustard seeds, cinnamon and bay. Toor dal (or arhar dal) was made in my house everyday.

Instructions to make Dal ARHAR with Tadka:
  1. Take a pressure cooker, add dal & all given ingredients.
  2. Add water accordingly so as to keep dal a lil thick.
  3. Place the lid, give 6-7 whistles. Lower the flame now, cook it for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove it from the flame, let it cool, keep aside.
  5. Take a pan or wok, add ghee, heat it.
  6. Add zeera and, let it splutter.
  7. Now add dry red chilli, sauté it for a while.
  8. Add onion, stir fry it until light brown.
  9. Add garlic & salt (lil), sauté it for a while.
  10. Add tomato now, also add lil water, stir fry it. Cover it with the lid, cook it at low flame till tomato becomes mashy.
  11. Open the lid now, add haldi powder & red chilli powder, again add lil water, increase the flame, stir fry it until oil has oozed out.
  12. Pour dal into the tadka masala, mix it well.
  13. Give a boil, lower the flame, cook it for 5 minutes.
  14. Switch off the flame, take out in a serving bowl, garnish it with chopped dhania patta.
  15. Have it in main course..

So obviously when you go out, you don't want to eat what you anyway eat everyday. Dal Tadka on the other hand uses a lot of ingredients and spices, making it a special dish.
