  18. Prepare 2 cloves
  19. Get 1 green chilli
  20. Make ready Ingredients for sambhar
  21. Make ready 1/2 cup split moong dal
  22. Get 1/2 cup toor dal
  23. Get 1/2 cup peeled and chopped Bottle ground
  24. Make ready 1 tablespoon seedless tamarind(imli) soaked in ⅓ cup water
  25. Make ready 1 tomato
  26. Get 1 onion
  27. Get 4-5 curry leaves
  28. Take 1/2 tbsp sambhar masala powder
  29. Make ready 1 green chilli
  30. Take 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  31. Take 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  32. Get 1 pinch asafoetida(hing)
  33. Make ready Salt to taste
  34. Get 1 cup water to be added later or add as required

This spice powder is the key to make a good sambar. A variety of spices & lentils are used to make. Rava or semolina idli is healthy as it doesn't need a much oil. You can make it still healthier by adding vegetables such as grated or finely chopped carrots Rava idli for breakfast or snack.

  1. Steps for making sambhar:- soake both dal for half an hour in water.
  2. Cook dal in 2 to 2.5 cups water in the pressure cooker for 3 to 4 whistles on medium to high flame. the dal should become soft and mushy.
  3. Once the pressure settles down on it's own, remove the lid and take it out in a vessel.
  4. Now wash the pressure cooker with water and put it on the gas.Put oil in it, When the oil becomes hot, add a tbsp of urad dal and chopped green chillies and curry leaves.
  5. Once it turns red, add a pinch asafoetid and chopped onion and fry it until it turns red.After this add ginger garlic paste and saute with spoon.After this add the chopped tomatoes and saute.After this add the chopped bottle ground in it and saute.after this add masala,salt and saute it for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. After that add 1cup water to it and close the pressure cooker lid and apply two whistles on high flame. Once the pressure settles down on it's own, remove the lid and put cooked dal and tamarind water in it and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on medium flame. Our less spiced shambhar is ready.Take it out in a vessel.
  7. Now for making idli:- Combine all ingredients together, except the Eno, with 1 cup of water in a deep bowl, mix well and cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  8. Heat the oil in a small non-stick pan, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, cashewnuts, curry leaves, green chilies and asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
  9. Add this tempering to the prepared semolina batter and mix well.
  10. Just before steaming, add the Eno and mix gently.
  11. Pour 2 tbsp of the batter into each greased idli mould and steam in a steamer for 8 to 10 minutes.
  12. Cool slightly, demould and decorate idli like snowman with tomato and green chilli.
