  7. Take Oil or ghee (optional)

Karnataka special thatte idli(plate idli) is the first breakfast recipe that attracted me towards Karnataka delicacies. Thatte is the Kannada word for plate and this flatter idli takes its name from its shape that is reminiscent of a flat disc or a plate. Making thatte idli at home is not at all difficult. If you have Thatte idli / Dokhla stand well and good if not also. no problem !!

Instructions to make Thatte Idli:
  1. Wash and soak rice,sago/ sabudana and urad dal for 4 hours. Discard the soaked water. Wash and soak poha for 30 mins. In wet grinder add soaked urad dal with 1/4 cup water,grind for few minutes,then add soaked rice and poha, 1/4 cup water or more and grind to make smooth idli batter. Transfer in big vessel. Keep cover for fermentation overnight or 8 -10 hours.
  2. At time of preparing idlis,add salt and mix gently. Keep water to boil in big vessel or Idli steamer. Place stand in it. Grease plate with oil. Pour 2-3 laddleful of prepared idli batter. Cover with lid and steam for 15 minutes.
  3. Let steam escape before opening the lid. Gently remove prepare thatte idli in serving plate. Sprinkle podi masala on it. Pour oil or melted ghee (optional)…on it.
  4. Serve/Relish Delicious Hot Thatte idli with coconut chutney and hot sambhar.
  5. For coconut chutney and sambhar refer to its recipes shared before.
